How do I write my book?
You may have written your book and now it’s time to publish, or you may not know where to start and what steps to take.
There are a lot of decisions to make when writing and publishing your book, much like the decisions you need to make when building a house.
There are a lot of choices such as to the exterior look and feel of the building (your book’s cover), and what inclusions you will have on the interior tiles, carpet, curtains, fixtures and fittings, (your inside pages).
Once you know who you are building your house for (or writing your book for)- these decisions become easier, and makes writing a book easier too.
I usually find most people already know what they want to write about , you have possibly thought about it for many years and even dreamed of becoming a published author.
Or perhaps, you realize to be an authority in your area of expertise you need a book to position yourselves to set you apart from others or standout.
In other words you need the BEST business card on the planet today.
So although for some people there is no burning passion to write a book- they know becoming an author can be a way to start ‘meeting’ new clients.
So once you know the reason you want to have a book, the next thing is to create it.
Once you think about becoming an author as simply a way of organising and ordering your knowledge this process is a lot easier.
You can then break down your knowledge, expertise or message into simple steps to build a manuscript. I teach this in my author express program, and below is an overview.
- Start with a brainstorm of everything you can possibly think of in regards to your book.
- Next develop an outline of your book’s chapters
- Then build a book board with sticky notes, to easily see what you will include in each of the chapters
- Finally having this all in a one to two page document as a book map , a bit like holding the blueprints to your house.
You now know exactly the steps you need to take to create your book’s content and share your message, so you can start making a difference.
The next thing is to choose the best method to ‘write’ your content and get it out of your head. There are a lot of ways to do this quickly & easily- it does not have to take years.
Once you have your book’s manuscript you can polish it and package it, ready to publish.
